Match Organizer’s Report June 2017
The A Division commenced with six teams. This number was only achieved by the Buffs agreeing to stay up, which resulted in a hard season for them. The requirement for a six team division to play three rounds was not popular with the clubs, and a proposal is on the table for the removal of this rule.
Redcar A won the league comfortably for the fifth time in the last six years. There was a protracted and unpleasant dispute which followed a request for a postponement in the match between Redcar A and the Rooks. Phil Mitcheson, in his capacity as Acting Chairman, has published a full account of this matter on the website. An issue arose about the treatment of returning players, and a proposal is on the table inviting members to clarify the rules.
There were several problems caused by incorrect data entry on the website. The Match Organizer requests that captains take care to be accurate.
Great Ayton B and Redcar B were fully tied for second and third in the B Division. A play-off was not considered necessary because clubs will be invited to bid for league entries next season.
Members have chosen to discontinue the small trophies for winning teams, and prize money will be awarded as follows:
A Div Winners – Redcar A £50
B Div Winners – Darlington B £50
C Div Winners – The Buffs B £50
The Tom Wise KO cup was won by Redcar A and the Jeremy Burnett Plate by Great Ayton A.
The Tom Wise KO was spoilt by the Rooks defaulting the final, despite all captains having been invited to suggest a date and a venue for the finals.
The Jeremy Burnett Plate was not a very successful competition, the Knights progressing to the final by virtue of two byes. A proposal is on the table inviting the members to discontinue this competition.
The Match Organizer recommends that next season, any knock-out competition should begin with a preliminary round to reduce the participants to a pyramid number (2,4,8) so as to minimise the possibility of defaults in subsequent rounds.
Prize Money is as follows:
Redcar A £50
