Upon an application for a contribution from the Fund towards certain prizes to be awarded in the forthcoming Thornaby Rapidplay event, and the representations received from Members following the Notice thereof given on 7/3/17, the Fund Manager submitted his recommendations to the Executive Committee for consideration. The application was successful and a cheque for £100 from the Fund will duly be presented to Brian Whitaker.
Notice to Members
In anticipation of the Annual General Meeting of the Association for 2017, would members wishing to:
- 1) Propose resolutions, submit them to the Secretary by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) on or before 9th May 2017; or
- 2) Stand for election to any office, identify themselves by email (as above) as soon as possible.

The Executive Committee now understands that the Grader will be submitting the remaining results of the CCA’s competitions for the 2016-17 season to the E.C.F. for grading in time for inclusion in its official Grading List for July 2017.
The Executive Committee understands that the Grader recently stood down from his office. A volunteer from the membership is sought to collate the relevant results of the CCA league, cup and individual competitions and submit them to the E.C.F. at the end of the season in time for incorporation in its July 2017 Grading List. Any Member willing to undertake the task should contact the Secretary.
The members of Thornaby Chess Club would like to invite all CCA members to a one day Rapidplay event, being held in the Thornaby Pavilion, on Saturday 17th June. This event is to commemorate ten years since the club’s inception and also to remember one of our founder members, who died so tragically young in 2010, Mike Closs.
Members of the public, as well as CCA members, are also being encouraged to take part (hence the wording on the form) in an effort to attract new people to the world of club chess. Please click on the link to download a copy of the entry form.
NOTICE from the Association Fund Manager:
Members are invited to consider the attached application from Brian
Whitaker for a funding contribution from the CCA Association Fund.
This is toward the costs of a quickplay event in June, and is to
contribute to the cash prizes for CCA Members for this event. The
funding is directed to incentivizing the participation of Members in
this event, including juniors. The entry form for the event, on which
these prize details are laid out, will shortly be published by Brian.
I have no hesitation in recommending this proposal for funding. In
accordance with section 12.6 of the Constitution, during the 30 days
following the date of this notice Members are invited to consider
this application and to contact me at email@example.com with
any queries or requests for clarification on this proposed use of the
Fund. After the 30 days the proposal will be put up to the CCA
Exective for decision together with a summary of Members’
representations (if any).
Notice re Middlesbrough Rooks v Redcar A postponed from 3/10/16
It was an extraordinary state of affairs that this match in the first week of the A Division fixture list for the season 2016-17, remained unresolved until a week before a ‘return’ fixture between these teams was scheduled. Following an appeal procedure, a final date of 5/12/16 was, ultimately, set for the match to be played. Redcar A subsequently claimed that Middlesbrough Rooks had defaulted on that date. This claim was found to be valid under the Rules and, accordingly, the result 0-5 to the away team has been published on the website.
Various points of procedure and principle arose during the dispute and are considered to justify a full explanation to Members. A statement from the Secretary may be studied via the links below. It is hoped that the explanation may prevent a repeat of the course of events and provide those Members copied-in to certain emails by the team captain of the Middlesbrough Rooks (‘MCAP’) with the full picture.
The Chairman has received two notices of appeal from MCAP dated 4/12/16:
- 1) against the decision to postpone the original match date on 3/10/16 and claiming the match by default. This has been rejected on the basis, inter alia, that this was not a decision taken by the Match Organiser under the Rules so no appeal lies; and
- 2) against the award of the match set for 5/12/16 to Redcar A by default. This has been rejected similarly.
Members are advised that the Chairman, Secretary and the Match Organiser are unanimously of the view, and so declare, that this matter is closed.

TAKE NOTICE that these may now be perused in ‘Grading lists’. The belated publication is not through any fault on the part of the Grader.
TAKE NOTICE that, in summary, the following amendments have been made:
1) Clause 12 added re the ‘Association Fund’ together with consequential definitions etc. pursuant to resolution 4.2 passed at the AGM 2016;
2) Clause 7.4 re the duties of the Treasurer amended pursuant to resolutions 4.2 and 4.8 passed at the AGM 2016;
3) Clause 4.5 added pursuant to resolution 4.11 passed at the AGM 2016; and
4) Various clauses revised, with re-numbering, to clarify that the office of President is a non-executive role purusant to resolution 6.2 at the AGM 2012 and not previously put into effect.
Proposals for Funding for Chess Events from the Association Fund
Thanks to a number of generous donations from Members, we are now able
to invite Members to submit proposals for funding for chess events in
the region (Cleveland and around all CCA affiliated clubs) from our
new Association Fund. Anyone wishing to submit a proposal for an event
will need to complete the Application Form contained in the
’Association Fund’ tab on this website and send it to the Association
Fund Manager, Julian Allinson. Should anyone wish to clarify anything
