There have been some recent changes to car parking at Thornaby town centre, which may cause an inconvenience to some members visiting the club. The main car parks are now monitored by number plate recognition cameras and people parking in them are now required to pay a £1 fee if they are parked there longer than three hours. Unfortunately, the only way to pay is via a mobile phone app that you need to download to your smartphone.
As an alternative members are advised that I have secured parking for chess players at the nearby Thornaby Methodist church on Stanstead Way. There is a footpath in front of the car park which leads straight through to the shopping centre and brings you out to the area in front of the Asda supermarket.
If people are challenged by church staff they should just say that they are visiting Thornaby Chess club at the Pavilion complex.
Please see map below for an indication of the location of the church.
Should members require further information then it is advised that you contact the team captain of the team you are playing.
