Many of you will already be aware of the great work Sean Marsh has been doing over the years, bringing chess to schoolchildren in our area through C.S.C. But were you aware that C.S.C. are now trying to increase the community aspect of the work they do? A new project has been set up in the Teesside area through C.S.C. using local libraries to run chess educational sessions. Initially focussed on Middlesbrough and Stockton central libraries, but with plans to expand to more, the sessions run from 10AM – noon at Middlesbrough and 1PM-3PM at Stockton, every Saturday. This project is the first of its kind and it is hoped will benefit CCA, CSC, local chess clubs and local libraries.
I have attended two sessions now at Stockton and I have to say that the initiative seems to be a great success with around a dozen attendees at each.
We are always complaining about the dwindling numbers in our clubs so it’s nice to see something positive happening to attract newcomers to our world. Well done to Sean Marsh, Sean Cassidy, David Smith and Paul Weightman for their efforts in this excellent new initiative.
