Can I urgently draw the attention of all team captains to rule 6.1.2 of the league rules.
This rule allows a team captain to arrange a short notice postponement with their opposition captain when unfortunate circumstances arise. I would recommend that team captains familiarise themselves with all the rules under clause 6 of The Rules, so that they know what their rights are when they are in this situation, as failure to arrange a postponement and simply abandoning the match will mean that not only will you be deemed to have lost that match 5-0 (4-0 for the C division) but your team will also be deducted three league points as per rule 6.6!
Your opposition captain is not obliged to accept your request for a postponement without your team suffering a one match point penalty, but this is surely better than losing 5-0 and being deducted three match points.
A basic principle underlying the rules is that they are designed to encourage the playing of chess and therefore abandoning games is not considered a desirable option.
