17/10/05 Dear All

It is that time of year again when we are looking for entries to the NCCU Club Championship. To mark the successful launch of the NMS we are hoping for a bumper entry this year.

The Newsletter from the 2004/05 season and a simple entry form in Word format for this year's event are downloadable from the website at - http://www.wallaseychess.btinternet.co.uk/nccu.htm I can e-mail them directly on request.

Please share this e-mail and the Newsletter with anyone else who may be interested in entering the competition. Assistance in this regard from the NCCU Committee Members would be very much appreciated.

I will be posting out printed copies to previous entrants - if you would like me to send you hard copies for circulation then please let me know (and how many).

As always, any comments, suggestions, constructive criticism, etc then please let me know.

Wallasey will again be entering at least 3, and we hope more, teams. Waterloo have already entered 3 teams and we have a first time entry from Skelmersdale.

Only NMS members will be allowed to play in the competition.

Best wishes

Dave Farley
NCCU Club Championship Controller

06/10/05 Cleveland Individual Championship 2005-2006

Minor Section
All 14 entrants competed in last years competition, the only two entrants not entered from last year being the eventual winner and three times champion Bernie Price, who is now too highly graded to compete, and Martin McLoughlin who is now spending much of his time with his new grandson.

Ged Murphy, last seasons close runner-up to Bernie, will start as hot favourite for a title he has won previously, and with the rest of the field so close on grading it is difficult to see which quarter the challenge will come from.

Cleveland Chess Association has again kindly donated £30.00 towards the grading prizes and this will consist of two prizes of £15.00 each for the best score under 90 and under 80.

Open Section
We have a couple of extra entries this year which makes the event much stronger, with welcomed additions of Redcar No 1 Dave Edmunds together with former Billingham player, Steve Cole, now with Middlesbrough Rooks. A Couple of former entrants are also welcomed back with Paul Gregory (trying to get interested in chess again) and special thanks to Ian Elcoate for accepting a late entry after I was left with an odd number.

The likely favourite is David Wise, the defending champion but no doubt Sean Marsh and Michael Closs, and possibly one or two others might have other ideas.

Cleveland Chess Association has again kindly donated £30.00 towards the grading prizes and this will consist of two prizes of £20.00 and £10.00 for the best two scores under 160.

Brian Myers
Controller

BCF Matters
Captains to remind players before match of the *NEW* FIDE/BCF rules
It is now illegal to write your move down and then move the piece - penalty for failing to observe this rule is default of the game, however the CCA has given players 1 year to get use to this rule ?! The correct way is to move the piece 1st then write the move down.

Also mobile phones to be put into silent mode.

Captains *MUST* send in the match results via post to Ray Pallister on the Result cards provided.

Meeting Closed approx 9.00pm
