CCA - Ref Min's While it has been practice for some time to place minutes of meetings on
the Cleveland website well in advance of the next relevant meeting at which they are to be considered, as Association Secretary I am abandoning this practice for
the following reasons:
1) Strictly speaking, any minutes created in advance of these being considered by an appropriate members meeting and signed off by the chairperson, are not
yet ratified. As such, they cannot be considered to be an accurate record of the meeting to which they refer.
2)This would not be such a big deal, but in these days of litigation, it is unwise to put matters in print without the full agreement by the members as to
their accuracy.
However, we don't want to throw overboard the open and democratic baby with the bathwater, so I am proposing that from now on key points from each meeting will
be summarised ( and I promise to produce these within a week of the meeting taking place, barring disasters..) with a fuller set of minutes being sent to each
member prior to each meeting, together with all the other relevant documents. The minutes, as ratified, will then be placed on the website.

Cleveland Chess Association To all members of CCA
It has become necessary to call an extraordinary general meeting to discuss specific items that cannot be left until the 2007 AGM.
CCA is a members association and it is for you to democratically decide how the CCA is run.
I and the other officers know that many of you just want to play chess and are not interested in the ‘politics’. That is entirely understandable, however from time
to time those officers who are charged with running the CCA on your behalf need to call upon you to stand up and be counted for us to rectify issues that cannot
wait.
The agenda items and date of the meeting will appear on this web site.
I sincerely ask you to make an effort to attend this meeting and help us sort out some pressing matters. Your time and patience will be appreciated.
Thank You

From CCA.
Thank you to all the clubs and individuals who have helped to ensure the smooth introduction of Cleveland's Member organisation scheme that is now up and running.
It has involved a lot of work for the CCA officers involved and your efforts in ensuring the required paperwork has been submitted in time has been very beneficial.
CCA has been able to take advantage of the 10% reduction in membership fees offered by the ECF because we finalised the scheme before the deadline. (£1 per MO
member)
The subject of how we dispose of this welcome extra income into the CCA account will be an agenda item at the 2007 AGM.
Thank you
Ernie Lazenby for CCA.

- IMPORTANT - Registration Update The grading list has been updated so that it shows all CCA registered players and those that have signed the
white ECF form.
I have now had the CCA list of registered players as of 06/10/06, I have been through the grading list and removed players that are not registered with the
CCA. I have also moved players to the clubs they have registered to play for. Names in green have signed the white ECF form and are now eligible to play in CCA
Events. Those names still in white (as far as we are aware) have NOT signed the ECF white form and need to do this ASAP, failing to sign this form makes the player
in-eligible to play in CCA events*. Please send all signed white ECF forms to

Players Registering Through Durham MO 'CCA recognises some practical difficulties associated with Durham only recently becoming a
member organisation of the ECF and their subsequent need to establish a registration system.
Players in the following clubs, Peterlee, Darlington & Hartlepool have indicated they will be becoming ECF members via the Durham MO scheme; because Durham is
working to a schedule a month behind CCA it has been deemed appropriate that no action should be taken against those clubs or any of their players who play in CCA
before the have become ECF members.
This short term dispensation is because of cross border problems and should in no way be seen as a relaxation of the rules. As of the 31st October Steve Henderson
will speak to a Durham official and determine who has registered and who has not.
The afroementioned clubs need to be mindfull that penalties will be imposed without further discussion if it is found that they have fielded players who have not
become members of the ECF.(failed to sign the white form etc)
A harmonisation of the registration process between Durham and Cleveland may need to be discussed at next years AGM.
Your assistance and understanding in these embryonic days of the MO Schemes is appreciated.'

| 03/10/06 |
ECF Membership Information There is now a web page that shows at this moment in time who is and is
not a member of the ECF, those names that are in green are members (they have signed and submitted the ECF white form), those in white are as far as we are aware NOT members, meaning that they have not signed and submitted the ECF white form.
Darlington, Peterlee and Hartlepool players are on the list, however they pay and submit their info to Durham. I will contact the Durham official to check on
these players and will update the webpage when I have confirmation that these players have signed the ECF white form.
If you find that your name is in white and you know that you have signed and submitted the ECF white form, can you contact me and let me know who you sent it to
and I will chase it up.
If you know you haven't signed the ECF white form, can you do so ASAP and hand the signed ECF form over to your club secretary and ask him to send it in to the
CCA Registration Secretary ASAP.

CCA - Registration Secretary Cleveland has become a member organisation of the ECF with a membership scheme and resulting from this there has arisen a need to
establish a computerised admin system compatible with the ECF office.. Steve Henderson has the software required to do this and with immediate effect has taken on
board the job of registration secretary. The main point of this appointment is to ensure that the ECF has one point of contact within our association and thus
questions about our scheme can be quickly dealt with.
Steve Dauber remains as county treasurer.
Steve H will be urgently requesting information from clubs and your assistance in supplying the required information will be very much appreciated and will be a big
help in making sure our MO scheme is efficient'

From Ernie Lazenby.
'It is important that all clubs be represented at the forthcoming Executive meeting on 13th September.Several clubs have withdrawn teams and this may result in
the C Division folding; One option is to have 10 teams in the A & B Divisions. The current position is not exactly clear as to how many teams will be left in the C
Division however it were to be 4 then clearly retaining the C Division would not be a viable option.
The league organiser will be in a position at the meeting to make reccomendations and will be able to get the league fixtures published very quickly following a
decision.
All clubs need to ensure they have a representative present but in particular those clubs with teams provisionally entered in the C Division.
The league organiser has a difficult job to do and your assistance will be appreciated'.

New Forum AS you may or may not know, the old Cleveland forum was hacked, I have tried
everything I can to get it back up and working, however it was not to be. Forums written in php script code seem to be a target for hackers and robots that auto
sign up and post URL links that may contain undesirable websites or virus's.
So I have scrapped the old forum and rebuilt a new one in a different script language, the downside is that you will have to register again (ah so is life) to
post messages . You can view most parts of the forum without registering an account.

From Ernie Lazenby Chair CCA
The next exec meeting of the association will be on Wednesday 13th September 2006
( for agenda etc see additional news item)
( webmaster note: Awaiting Agenda to be emailed to me)This meeting is for the officers of
the association and one representative of each club. Observers are welcome but will not be allowed to enter into the discussions etc These meetings are not mini
AGM's and are arranged to discuss a limited number of issues that may effect the good running of the association.
In particular we are very keen to hear from any club official in the north of the county who may be able to offer an alternative
venue for future Exec meetings and AGM's. Firm offers only please.
It is in the interest of every club to make sure they have a representative at these meetings and your support will be appreciated.

Cleveland Chess EGM CCA held a EGM to discuss the ECF and NCCU membership schemes.
The meeting was chaired by Ernie Lazenby
There was good representation from all clubs
Gerry Walsh spoke on the ECF membership scheme
Steve Henderson & Bill Metcalf spoke on the NCCU membership scheme
Steve Dauber (Treasurer) spoke and gave his opinion.
Question were taken from the floor.
The outcome is stated below as provided by the CCCA Chairman
***
'At the CCCA EGM on 3rd August 2006 a proposal was passed that all players intending to play chess in Cleveland must be basic members of the ECF, and Cleveland
will apply to become a member organisation of the ECF.
Cleveland will NOT be running a dual system, i.e.: ECF membership scheme in tandem with NCCU NMS.
Club secretaries/treasurers will be responsible for ensuring new members and any existing members who have not joined the ECF do so via the normal registration
system at the start of the new season.
Membership of the ECF is now mandatory for anyone wishing to play chess in Cleveland..
