08/12/09 - KO Cup Rules - Important!
All team captains
may wish to read the current set of rules for the KO cup/plate
competitions. In the event of a drawn match the team who has won the toss
of the coin and takes white on boards 1-3-5 will lose. Board count no
longer plays any part in tie breaks. The tie break now favours the team
playing with three blacks.

28/10/09 - Chess Books For sale - All SOLD
All Chess Books have
now been sold - we would like to thank everyone for their interest.
Middlesbrough Chess
club is having to dispose of a large collection of chess books (other than
those donated by Tony Kiddles family) The new premises does not afford the
club the space needed to keep all these books; In consequence every Monday
for the coming months Ernie Lazenby will attend and have approx 20 books
for sale on behalf of the club. Some of these books go back to the 1920's
and cover all aspects of the game. Any member of the CCA is welcome to
attend and browse. The first sale will be on 2nd November and will include
a number of the older books which may be of interest to a collector.

night the very last game of chess was played at Marton Community Centre -
26th October 2009. Middlesbrough Chess Club moves to the new venue (Acklam
Park Green Lane Middlesbrough) on 2nd November.

The KO Cup draw will take place
at the Griffin this coming Tuesday 20th October
There are 19
entrants to this years competition
There is a free week in the
league fixtures w/c 16 November that clubs may want to avail themselves of
for the Cup, but as long as the fixtures are completed by the end of the
year we will be OK.

Middlesbrough Chess Club are moving!
Middlesbrough Chess Club are moving from Marton Community Centre to
Middlesbrough Rugby/Cricket Club, Green Lane, Middlesbrough. Middlesbrough
Chess Club will meet in the new venue as of the 2nd November.
Club
night stays as Monday.
Middlesbrough Chess Club have been at Marton
for twenty years and feel that the Centre has provided excellent playing
conditions. Middlesbrough Chess Club are moving because the new location
will be nearer to the centre of Middlesbrough; as an added bonus, there is
a bar.

Some players have
been asking about membership requirements and were a little confused as to
what was required.
So I hope the following helps clear this up
To play in CCA Events - all players must pay £4 CCA registration
Also
you must be a member of an MO (NCCU, Durham, Cleveland, Northumberland) or
a Direct ECF member .
We would prefer it if you all joined the
Cleveland MO via your club, however the choice is yours.
If anyone

09/07/09 - A Message from Stan Lovell
If all goes to plan, I shall be moving from Redcar to
Scarborough in August. My wife, Jan, and I will be moving into a
retirement cottage.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank
all those in the Cleveland league who have given me help and friendship
which has made my eight years in this area a very enjoyable chess
experience.
Since I started playing competitive chess around 60
years ago I have played in many clubs and in the Bristol and district
league, the North Gloucestershire league, the Essex league, the Leeds and
district league and the Yorkshire league. I have enjoyed my travels around
the various chess leagues and made many friends. None have bettered the
help and friendship I have experienced in the Redcar club in particular
and the Cleveland league in general. Thanks to you all.
I hope to
continue enjoying some chess in my new area and hope I will meet up with
some of you in the future, either over-the-board or around the bar!
