North East Summer Chess Festival
Saturday 26th July 2008
Ward Jackson Park, Hartlepool TS26

The first ever North East Chess in the Community Festival was held in the Ward Jackson Park, Hartlepool on Saturday 26th July from 12 noon till 4pm. There was something for everybody: competitions, giant chess boards, free coaching, and International Grandmaster Gawain Jones played a blindfold exhibition match against Cleveland's very own David Smith (pgn game), and then gave a Simul.

Bill Wilson from Hartlepool chess club (who was the organiser of this event) is to be applaud for all his efforts in bringing chess to the public! WELL DONE BILL !!!

Our thanks to everyone that turned up to support this event and a very special thank you to GM Gawain Jones for his support and time, and last but not least thanks to the Renaissance Academy ( www.renaissanceacademy.org.uk ) for lending us the giant chess sets & boards, what a great day!
Please enjoy the photo's :-)
